On December 25, 2017, Earl Anne withdrew some penny so she could give to her nieces and nephews for Christmas. She took out P2,400 from an a automated teller machine (ATM) of the Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI) in Eastwood Libis, Quezon City. But when machine dispensed the bills, the faces were gone.

According to BSP Managing Director for Currency Management Carlyn Pangilinan, it’s a rare misprint that came from new printing plants which were installed a month ago. Numismatists or coin collectors were eyeing these 33 misprinted pieces by the central bank. Pangilinan said that “faceless” bills are legal tender and can be used as collectible item.

President Manuel Roxas was gone and the words “Republica” and “100” were faded. The seal is half-cut. This happened for the first time.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas admitted the errors on the notes, which became a festive topic in social networking sites. Another example is the new-generation banknotes, rolled out durign 2010 which contains signature of late President Benigno Aquino. This 500-peso bill shows the rare native bird, the blue-naped parrot, with its red beak incorrectly rendered in yellow and the tail feathers underneath coloured green instead of yellow.
