Meet DJ Big Boy Cheng, a massive sneaker collector has a `sneakers room’ that stores around 900 pairs including Jordans, Nikes and Addidas designs, in a centralized air conditioner and humidifier. He has a gallery-perfect collection of designer toys, sculptures, and paintings. Grateful and approachable, he is a curator of the best pieces of pop, creative subcultures, and independent art scene.

This 40-year-old DJ started his fascination during elementary years largely influenced by his older sister. “Bata pa ako mahilig na ako sa sneakers dahil sa kapatid kong babae,” he recalls. “Bumibili siya lagi pag pumupuntang Hong Kong tulad ng Converse and Diadora, so from there, nagka-interest ako.”

His family was very sports oriented. Hong Kong carried the best pairs of Converse, Jabbar, and Cortez to name a few. His dad was a basketball fan and his sister is a part of the RP Team. Toys were his first obsession – G.I. Joes to He-Man figures. As he grew up, he eventually gravitated towards sneakers, music, and fashion.

He went crazy for the Nike Air Pressures, asked his mom to get a pair in Hong Kong. He bought a white Air Jordan 1 for P3000 and first to rock them. He collected the whole Kanye West Nike / Addidas Yeezy collection.

He has a message to his fans!

“Enjoy collecting, don’t be serious to the point you’re stepping on others. Be friends with everyone. Enjoy the moment. Sneakers bond people together. Always maximize your use of social media as it is a great avenue to meet fellow collectors in and out of the country. Have fun!”
